There Is Beauty In Waiting Response

Earlier this week, I shared my personal story about abstaining from sex until marriage entitled, “There is Beauty in Waiting,” on the Silver Ring Thing blog site. When I was told the post was finally published for the world to see and read, I got a little nervous. You would think that it wouldn’t affect me in that way since I have been traveling the country for the last year and half sharing and promoting the message of abstinence, but for some reason I still had butterflies in my stomach. This time it was different! I would no longer just be sharing this message with strangers from a stage, but people that knew me would read it via the blogsite’s connection to social media like Facebook and Twitter. So you may ask, why would someone who promotes abstinence and purity be afraid of people knowing that they themselves were actually abstinent?

However, this transformation, I’ve noticed, is not always in ways we expect.

Many of us girls grow up watching fairy tale movies, where some maid or mistreated young woman meets this prince and becomes a princess. Usually some type of transformation takes place where she leaves her old life behind, gets an extreme makeover, and then lives happily ever after with her prince. I often think we expect our lives to go somewhat like this when we begin our relationship with God: a quick transformation, no pain, no hardships, no disappointment.

Beauty For Ashes: Eight Year Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina

As  I enter this whole new world of blogging, I consider today to be a great day for me to write my first blog because it has a lot to do with the title of my blog site. God has been nudging at my heart for the past year to start blogging, but I was too “chicken” to be obedient. Well about 2 months ago, I finally built up the courage to begin this blog with the title being “Cultivating Kerri.”  I chose this title because I believe that everything that has taken place in my life thus far has cultivated me into the person I am today and my present and future experiences will continue this development until my life is done.
